Description:
The following notes are somewhat provisional. Somewhat similar to S. inornatus, but less tall (to 1.2 m); basal leaves not prominent (perhaps even absent at flowering time - and certainly rarely collected); bracts of calyculus 6-7; ray-florets 9-12.The peak flowering time, per the specimens in SRGH, is April - May, somewhat later than inornatus.

Habitat: Most often on stream sides and river banks, less often in vleis or marshy grassland, always in wet places.
Flowering time:(Feb-) Apr - May (-Jul)
Worldwide distribution: Angola, DRC, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia.
