Description:
Densely branched, leafy parasitic shrub, up to 50 cm high. Leaves very variable, spathulate-oblanceolate to obovate-rotund, 15-40 mm long, sometimes 3-veined, base running down into a subpetiole; margin often yellowish or minutely whitish crenulate. Flowers in clusters of unisexual clusters of 1-3, sometimes with a central female flower subtended by 2 male flowers. Fruit sessile, ovoid, 5-6 mm high, densely tuberculate when young, orange and less tuberculate when ripe.
Notes: This species is not listed for Botswana in Polhill & Wiens, 2006 (Flora Zambesiaca 9-3) nor in Setshogo, 2005 (Sabonet 37).
Derivation of specific name: tuberculatum: tuberculate or warty, referring to the fruit.
Habitat: Found on Celastraceae, Combretum and Flacourtia in bushland, woodland and at the edges of drier evergreen forest.
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in Eastern half of Africa from Ethiopia to South Africa and from Rwanda to Angola and Namibia.
