Description:
Suffrutex with stems up to 30 cm long, growing from a horizontal rhizome. Leaves mostly in whorls of 3-4, obovate to obovate-oblong or elliptic, 4-16 cm long, somewhat leathery, hairless (in this variety); margin entire; petiole 5-20 mm long. Stipules 4-5 mm long, triangular with a drawn out apex, hairless. Inflorescences in the lower leaf axils, up to 4 cm long, much-branched, few-many flowered, usually hairless but rarely with spreading hairs on the inflorescence axes and calyx tubes. Corolla red or greenish; tube 3-4 mm long; lobes 4-5 mm long, reflexed or sometimes erect. Fruit oblong, subglobose or pear-shaped, up to 3 × 2 cm, hairless.
