Description:	Multi-stemmed shrub or small tree. Branches reddish-brown, armed with paired straight spines. Leaves, bipinnate with only one pair of pinnae; leaflets in 7-18 widely spaced pairs, oblong, 10-25 mm long, hairless. Flowers in axillary spikes, yellow. Pods slender, woody, 10-25 cm long, straight, somewhat constricted between the seeds, indehiscent.

Worldwide distribution:	Native to Southwestern USA and Mexico. Naturalized and considered invasive, particularly in South Africa.
