Goyder, D.J. (2007) Zimbabwean Asclepiadaceae. Unpublished list.
Usually dwarf, prostrate to erect, perennial herbs with a single tuber or a cluster of fusiform roots. Flowers in umbel-like inflorescences, terminal or lateral at the nodes. Corolla campanulate to ± flat; lobes spreading or united at tips to form a cage-like structure. Corona (1-)2-seriate; outer corona of distinct lobes; inner linear-oblong. Anthers horizontal, pressed onto style head. Follicles smooth, paired. Seeds with a narrow marginal wing, crowned with tuft of hairs. Comment: More recent phylogenetic evidence has led to the forming of a very broad concept of the genus Ceropegia including the genus Brachystelma and all known genera within the Stapeliae (Bruyns, P.V., Klak, C. & Hanáček, P., 2017). We will await a broader form of acceptance of this new concept before changing the taxonomy in our database. Worldwide: 100 species in Africa with 1 species in India, New Guinea and Australia Botswana: 10 taxa. |
