Plinthus Fenzl

Description of the genus

Erect or sprawling woody undershrubs, the young parts covered with white or silvery appressed hairs. Leaves small, simple, exstipulate, with axillary fascicles of smaller leaves. Flowers axillary, solitary. Perianth segments 5, almost free. Stamens isomerous, inserted at the base of the perianth. Ovary superior, free from the perianth, 3-chambered, each chamber with 1 ovule; style wanting; stigmas 3. Fruit loculicidal. Seeds flattened-reniform.

Worldwide: 6 species in Southern Africa.
