Description of the genus

A genus of tufted plants that have most of their structure underground with only the tips of the leaves showing. Leaves paired, conical and fused for most of their length, the point of the cone is under the soil and the flattened base above ground. They are well camouflaged except when the colourful flowers appear for a short period.

Derivation of name: stone-like.
