Description of the genus

Stoloniferous floating perennial. Stems scapose. Leaves ligulate, the lower leaf sheaths inflated. Involucral bracts leaf-like. Inflorescence subumbellate globose heads, each head with many closely packed spikelets, subtended by scale-like bracts. Nutlets with a corky base.

Worldwide: One species in tropical Africa and Central America.
