Stem erect, somewhat square in cross section, yellow-green to deep maroon, glabrous, smooth. Leaves opposite, simple, subsessile; lamina lanceolate, 10-50 x 0.5-4 mm, apex acute, base hastate, margin entire but tends to involute, dull green to maroon, glabrous, smooth, slightly succulent, midrib prominent. Inflorescence an umbel, axillary, (2-) 3 (-5)- flowered. Flowers small, 2.5-3 mm in diameter. Calyx campanulate, 4-lobed. Petals purple, 4, free, broadly obovate. Stamens 4; filaments purple, slender, curved, 1.5-2 mm long: anthers yellow, subglobose. Style extended, ca. 3.5 mm long.
