Description: |
Normally a climber with tendrils but occasionally a shrub or very small tree. Young branches may be covered in rusty hairs. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets obovate with margins dentate. Flowers in small elongate heads, greenish-yellow. Fruits near spherical, 1.5-2 cm in diameter, red to black when ripe. |

Derivation of specific name: | tridentata: with three teeth. This name was derived from the type specimen which had very few teeth on the leaf margin. This form is fairly common in parts of South Africa but elsewhere the leaf margins show many more teeth. |
Habitat: | In a wide variety of habitats, often associated with rocky places. |
