| Description: |
Succulent herb forming more or less diffuse clumps up to several meters in diameter. Stems decumbent, up to 50 cm long and up to 3 cm thick, grey-green marbled with reddish-purple; tubercles often forming continuous winged angles along the stems. Inflorescences 1-3 on younger stems from the base to near the apex, with 5-40 flowers emitting a strong, bad smell. Pedicels 10-45 mm long, horizontal to ascending. Sepals ovate-lanceolate, 5-9 mm long, recurved at the tips. Corolla star-shaped, 55-85 mm in diameter, Purplish to pale pink and smooth outside, cream towards the base; dark brown, maroon, dark purple or rarely yellow inside with transverse papillate bands; tube 5-7 mm long, somewhat thickened at the mouth; lobes narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 20-45 mm long and 5-9 mm wide at the base, convex; margins reflexed and set with maroon to white cilia. |
