Description of the genus

Shrubs, sometimes spiny, densely to moderately branched; stems prostrate to erect, leafy with short lateral shoots with crowded leaves. Leaves decussate, or sometimes alternate, sessile; margins entire, usually with stalked glands. Capitula radiate, solitary, sessile terminal on stems and short shoots, often in a fork of two branches. Phyllaries in 3-10 rows, imbricated, entire, basally firm, sometimes brown with pale margins, otherwise yellowish, often glandular. Receptacle flat. Ray florets tube cylindric-funnel shaped, 3- lobed, yellow. Disc florets yellow, 5-lobed. Pappus crown-like, with many scales.

Worldwide: 4 species in southern Africa.
