Description: |
Perennial (semi-)aquatic herb, up to 1.5 m tall. Leaves emergent, erect; petiole up to 1.2 m long but usually shorter, spongy and angular in cross-section. Lamina sagittate, usually somewhat constricted in the middle, pubescent, particularly beneath, basal lobes well developed, longer than the midrid, with an agle of less than 90 degrees; veins 17-25, 4-5 pairs arising from the base, arching to the leaf apex, the others curving down towards the tips of the lobes. Inflorescence on a stout peduncle, with 4-6 whorls of flowers, the lower sometimes branched. Flowers 15 or more in each whorl, bisexual or some male in the basal whorls, with greenish sepals and white petals. |

Notes: | This species can be distinguished from the closely related Limnophyton obtusifolium by the pubescent leaves and bracts; the much narrower angle between the basal lobes of the leaves and the larger number of flowers in each whorl (15 or more). |
